"Butterfly Lovers" is a dance and music film (29 min.)
by director Marikki Hakola. The film is an audiovisual interpretation of the famous Chinese violin concerto composed by He Zhan Hao & Chen Gang. The story is a contemporary adaptation of a classical Chinese fairy tale, “A Love Story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. The film is featuring choreographer, dancer Dou Dou, dancer Ding Yuehong, violinist Takako Nishizaki, conductor James Judd, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. The producer in charge of the production is Kroma Productions Ltd, Finland. Co-producer is Naxos Rights International Ltd. Hongkong. The film is produced in cooperation with YLE TV1 an YLE Teema.


“Butterfly Tones” is a documentary (40 min.) about the background of the “Butterfly Lovers” music film. It consists of interviews with composer Chen Gang, violinist Takako Nishizaki, conductor James Judd, professor Zeng Kang Mei and choreographer Dou Dou. The documentary is directed by Marikki Hakola.
